From a very young age we are asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As adults we get asked all the time “What do you do for a living?” It seems that in our so   ciety we are constantly under pressure to identify with our job and use it as the primary way we define ourselves. Throughout our years of schooling and at every step along the way of our careers there is never any room for doubt about our chosen path. That is, until life steps in.

A New Year Resolution Alternative

As the year ends there is one question that is often asked of us (and we often ask ourselves): what New Year resolutions will you make?  We ponder the question.  We look back over the past year at the New Year resolutions we made last year.  We shake our heads in mock disbelief at how many resolutions we failed to keep.  And we return to the question at hand: what New Year resolutions will I make (and break) this year.  We often wonder how long it will take before we break them and give ourselves a congratulatory pat on the back if we last five months!

More foreclosures?  Another plunge in the stock market? A car dies requiring a major overhaul?  Who knows what will happen next?  We lose sleep, we wake up worrying.  How do we reduce the pressure?  How can we feel more empowered to deal with the daily stress of living in a modern era?  How do people cope?
